WHO WE ARE
D-Street Studios facilitates a network of educational and community oriented recording studios. We are partnered with LEAF, a non-profit organization connecting cultures and building communities through music and arts. Our primary goal is to support existing educational organizations, schools and community centers by installing affordable recording equipment and training both students and teachers in music production.
Once in regular operation, each individual studio is self-sustaining and provides a place for community members to express themselves through music production and recording. Not only is each individual studio a place for the community to come together, but also part of a larger network promoting peace and expression through music. Our focus is primarily on underprivileged areas, and nations recovering from traumatic conflict.
WHERE WE ARE GOING
Upcoming national projects include installing new studios in a DC community Center, and continuing to support school programs at William Randolph School in Asheville, North Carolina. Internationally, we hope to create a studio in a school for orphans in Mombasa, Kenya, as well as a studio at a LEAF international music program in place in Tanzania. These studios bring students together by allowing them to utilize information technology and production equipment to collaborate and make music communally.
Relationships built through singing and sharing music together create ties between these struggling locations that can endure for many years. These "Peace Studios" empower youth and are a crucial resource in providing safe, peaceful, activity space where they can express themselves. To promote cultural awareness, national and international projects can be completed as pairs, connecting sister-schools on different continents. While our studios utilize affordable technology, we can't do it without the help of our donors! Be a Studio Founder and help make our dream a reality.
